The Blog Is Moving

Hey guys, I have moved the blog! I’m hoping to make it official but I want to hear from you guys before I do that. Everything that’s on this WordPress blog will stay here – I have too much history here to erase it but my website has a much easier platform for making posts and I like having everything all in one place.

SOOOOOO, here’s where I need your help – would you go visit my new blog – you can visit it by clicking here and sign up so you get notified when I post a new blog. Would you also leave me a comment on this blog post to let me know if it was an easy process to sign up on my new blog – that’s really important to me that it’s an easy process for you guys because you have been so faithful to me on this blog!!!!

I have two new posts on my NEW BLOG that you haven’t seen – one is an introduction from me (pics from my studio, etc) and one is a NEW VIDEO! So hopefully that will be incentive for you to go check it out. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me some feedback and let me know what you think! I value your opinion! Sandi Hester, plein air sketching

Window Christmas Decorating

Quick little video of me decorating for Christmas. Hope you all had a great one! More videos to come in the new year so make sure to follow and subscribe. Instagram (@sandigrady1) and my youtube channel are where you will likely see videos first so make sure to subscribe in those places to get update first. See you in the new year!

VIDEO! Sketchbook Ideas

I did a video on a sketchbook I did for a friend as a gift for Christmas – check it out to get some good ideas for a sketchbook, to see a little bit of what is in this sketchbook and to see my totally messy studio (it’s that time of year that the studio stays looking like it exploded). Hope you enjoy it and expect to see more videos coming – I plan to do more videos in the upcoming year and hope it will be a more common feature on my blog, youtube channel, and instagram (@sandigrady1). Come find me on those other avenues and subscribe to get updates of new things.

Little Artists in My Studio

Hannah and Macy are two of my nieces and we have done many art lessons over the years and they continue to amaze me. Today Hannah (oldest) had her first oil painting lesson and Macy worked in watercolor and gouache. We started the day off by going to a local nursery to pick out flowers for our still life (they found out that that’s a hard decision to make!). We covered a ton today – value, color, composition, color mixing, texture, and lots more. They killed it! We were ALL exhausted! Hannah kept taking breaks and saying she needed to stretch 🙂 – that’s me all day long (stretching and working out sore muscles from standing and painting – you didn’t know it was so taxing did you?!).

Here’s a quick video of them in action – there was serious concentration going on in this studio today – no playing around – they were serious artists today. We did take Cooper (my dog) breaks though – always nice to have a studio dog to love on when you need to take a break from painting!

Palette, Paints, Tips and Instagram

First things first – I have no idea how to link Instagram to my blog BUT I wanted to let you know that I am on Instagram now and I post on there more frequently since it feels a little more laid back and not so formal as the blog. I think my “name” is sandigrady1. Leave me comments if you can’t find me.

Ok, on to the video! I did this video a couple months ago but just couldn’t get it to work – somehow it just started working so here it is! So, yes, I know, I need to work on my videoing skills – not the best BUT it does contain lots of good info, products, and several good tips I’ve learned along the way. I hope you enjoy it! If the video below doesn’t work here’s a link AND don’t forget to subscribe to my Youtube channel so you get updates on when I publish videos.

Video of Pochade Boxes From Alla Prima

Merry Christmas! I just shot a new video that I’m excited to share with you. I wanted to do a video a while back when I purchased a new pochade box from Alla Prima a year or so ago but never did it. WELL, I loved my box so much that I just purchased another one – a smaller version and I did a short video to show you both of them.

For those of you that aren’t familiar with a pochade box it’s a box you take out and about to paint on – it’s a “desk” and easel all in one! This is a BEAUTIFUL and very functional thought-out box. I just love both of them. Ben (the wonderful and creative designer and builder of these boxes) has thought of everything. These boxes are different from anything else out on the market. The craftsmanship is outstanding! They are functional and a pleasure to work with every time I use them.

Hope you enjoy the video and make sure to check out Ben’s boxes at http://www.allaprimapochade.com/index.html
