The title is appropriate because one of these paintings is of my mother-in-law from a black & white of her when she was young. The flower painting is in memory of my sister’s mother who pasted away recently. When my sister called me to tell me of her mom’s illness months ago I picked out one of my favorite flower paintings to set aside for her mom’s funeral – we knew it would not be long before she passed. I wanted to send her flowers that would last and have something tangible for her to keep in memory of her mom. My sister Jackie is one of my BIGGEST fans (gotta love family that gives you such encouragement!) so I knew it would be special for her. It is an oil bar painting.

Paintings Now For Sale At Local Boutique!

IMG_0476For those in Nashville, you can now purchase my art in a little shop in Glenbrook shopping center in Hendersonville! My art is in an unlikely place – it’s in a hair salon’s gift shop. BUT it’s not just your standard salon gift shop – the new owner’s of Rodelle’s Salon (soon to be called Colour Salon Suites – how appropriate is that for my art?!) have transformed the boutique into a beautiful space that has handmade items for sale all from Tennessee. They have soaps, candles, jewelry, lip balm, ect. and ART!IMG_0474IMG_0468

I will be changing out the paintings regularly and my goal is to post the new paintings so you can see what’s available for purchase. There are a couple of other paintings up now on the wall other than these in the picture. Below are a handful of the paintings up close – click on any of them to see more detail. For those that have wanted more access to my art I hope you will stop by the boutique!

This is my favorite time of year when everything’s in bloom! Thought it was appropriate to post some flowers – colorful and fun. These were done with my oil bars.

Up To My Eyeballs In Varnish!

Grady and I have been working hard to get ready for the art sale and open house this coming weekend. My studio has been covered up with paintings in one form or another. Here are two shots of two different desks covered in paintings that have been varnished. It’s going to be a beautiful Saturday so I hope to see lots of you!

I meant to mention in the post about the art sale that the bird painting was done with oil bars (or also called oil sticks). I am in serious love with these things!!! It’s like painting with soft sticks of butter and they leave a nice texture to the canvas when you smoosh the bars down as you paint – I’m ALL about texture when it comes to painting! I’ll have more paintings done in these bars to show you as time goes on. They take a while to dry but you don’t have to varnish them because they are made with wax which is really nice. Below is a picture of my every growing oil bar collection. Another wonderful thing about them is that you don’t have to use turp or any mediums – just some paper towels and you’re good to go – they would be perfect for someone just starting out in oils. They also keep you loose with your painting because they’re huge so you can’t get all detail. They are FUN FUN FUN!!!!
