Meet Birdie – Our Airstream
by sandihester

Day we picked up Birdie – my dad joined us and that made it even more special!
I know this isn’t about my art (even though I do have two paintings I did in the airstream so maybe that counts 🙂 ) but I thought you guys might like to see this any ways. A couple of years ago Grady got this wild idea to get an airstream. We’ve only camped once together, even though I camped with my dad as a kid, it was not the kind of vacation we take now. I was NOT sold on the idea. But as we searched for an old airstream, visited dealerships and looked at new airstreams, and drove through campsites while we were on vacations I started to get the airstream and camping bug. We thought we’d get an airstream to try – we didn’t want to put a ton of money into something we had no idea if we would even like it. Grady searched for almost 2 years to find this beauty and last summer we went and picked her up! And my dad went with us to pick her up, a memory I will always treasure!
Over the next several months we spent cleaning her, decorating her, and fixing her. Due to life (sickness, work, weather, etc) we just took our maiden voyage a couple of weeks ago! I really really really wanted to take it with my dad and we were able to do that!!! It was the perfect camping trip – we had a total blast!
And Cooper (our wire-haired pointing griffon) was the perfect camping dog. He was better at the campsite than he is at home!!
I took a short video (it actually ended up being 2 short videos because I didn’t know how to work my camera) of our airstream – you can see it here and part 2 here. Or you can click on part 1: Airstream Part 1 part 2: Airstream Part 2 Hope you enjoy the video and pics of our little home on wheels. We love her and can’t wait to take our next trip! And Daddy and Pat (and Patches), thanks for a great maiden voyage!
Good for all of you, congratulations on using your wisdom, a very wise buy and our dog Bubba like your dog loves and wants us to hook the trailer up and head out, your pup will do the same. Enjoy your special times on the road and you can also take closer to home some 2-3 day trips and continue to enjoy your adventures in your airstream. Thanks for sharing your joyful story and our whole church is praying for a miracle for you Sandi, just know a miracle is going to happen soon. Blessings to you.

Thanks for sharing! I have always loved airstreams. I’ve never camped much, but I think I could go for those digs. Have you painted it yet? I saw one in someone’s backyard one time and sneaked into a vacant lot to get a pic. After I got out of jail, it was fun to paint because of the reflections.
I’m still praying for you. You and Grady are going to see the USA in a fun way! Try southern Utah. We loved it.
