What Is Your House Built On?
by sandihester
A better question is Who is your house built on? Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. Matthew 7:24-25
I actually painted this one a while back. I had this image in my mind right before we went on a trip and I had to get it on paper. I felt like I spewed it out of my brush one night as I was packing. I wish I had taken a little more time with it, but it was one of those that I had to get down on paper. I’ve just now decided to bring it out of the archives because I have houses on my mind a lot lately. We’ve been looking at houses for 3 1/2 years now – we take forever to find what we’re looking for – and it’s kind of a hobby for us. We’ve been wanting to get Grady closer to work (Green Hills). It’s been taking us a while to get the house ready to put on the market, but we’re hoping to have it on the market in the next month or so. We really want to downsize, minimize, and declutter everything we have. Life is too short and Christ too important to be caught up in things. I could easily sell everything in a yard sale tomorrow and go on the mission field… hopefully one day. It will have to be on the Lord’s timing – His calling – His plans. For now our calling, as far as missions, is short term trips and supporting other missionaries on the field. I’ll keep you updated on the house stuff – let me know if you’re interested in buying a house :)!
Sandie, Now that is what I call a ROCK!
Yea, it’s a little big isn’t it? I was trying to capture the solidness and unmovingness (my own made up word there) of Christ.
Oh Sandi…I LOVE this!!! As you know, we are having to move soon and will be downsizing too. We are also getting excited about simplifying things to free up more time for what’s really important….ministering to others for His Kingdom….to fill up His House!!! We have had many “storms” hit our house lately but Praise the Lord for He is our Rock on which we now stand! I so want a print of this one girl!!! Love you….and miss you!!!
I miss you too Christy! We’ve been praying for you guys! You’ve definitely seen your share of storms but look at how obvious your Rock is to everyone. I wonder if the Lord brings “storms” in our lives sometimes to show us, and the watching world, how solid and unshakeable and unmovable He is? The storms prove our foundations to be solid or crumbly.
